Raising Awareness

It’s that time of year again- we all know someone who is walking, running or biking for a great charitable cause. These events are a great way to raise money and awareness. My family is very much involved in Bladder Cancer Canada and September is the foundations biggest month with a national Awareness Walk happening on September 21st.

My stepfather, David Guttman co-founded Bladder Cancer Canada (BCC) in 2009. David became aware after his diagnoses that there was a lack of information available for treatment options, awareness and a general lack of community for bladder cancer patients and their families.  So together with Jack Moon this foundation was formed.

As a non-profit organization BCC has done an incredible job building recognition. From ads in the TTC to national television commercials and the consistent use of the lemon logo, awareness is being built. Overall, BBC’s objectives are to educate and increase awareness on signs and symptoms,  raise funds to advance medical research and to assist  newly diagnosed and long term survivors of bladder cancer. This is a cause close to my heart and I am so proud to support and help grow this foundation.

Last year the Bladder Cancer Canada Awareness Walk raised over $350.000 and this years goal is even bigger. On September 21st, I will be taking the morning off from real estate to walk with team “Mellow Yellow” at Sunnybrook Park.  Finger and toes crossed for warm temperatures and sunny skies.

To see the power of this foundation watch the television commercial by clicking the logo below. This ad was written and produced by volunteers with a total cost of $25 to produce- Amazing!
